Angul: In pursuant to its CSR mission for ‘Education for All’, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), Angul in association with John Augustus Prison and Social Welfare Services (JAPSWS) has provided more than 8500 study material sets to children of jail inmates in all the 51 jails across Odisha, during last six years. This year the company has provided 1830 book sets among children of jail inmates, going to 1009 schools across Odisha. In the converging programme of this study material distribution on October 22, 2013, Mr. S.N. Girish, Collector & District Magistrate of Cuttack handed over the study material sets to the Jail Inmates at Choudwar Circle Jail, in presence of Mr. Prashant Kumar Hota, VP (CSR & Corp Comm), Ms. Sunita Sarkar, DIG (Prisons), Mr. P.K. Choudhury, Secretary, JAPSWS, Mr. Niranjan Das, Sr. Superintendent, Circle Jail and Mr. Subhakanta Mishra, Jailor.
Appreciating the initiative by JSPL and JAPSWS Mr. SN Girish said, “When parents are not staying with the children, books become their best friend and guide. I am very happy that the books and other educational materials given in the programme will inspire the children for better education”. Welcoming JSPL’s support for the noble cause, he added, “JSPL always looks forward opportunity for serving the society. The Company has own several national awards for their CSR work and I believe, the company deserves the awards”.
Mr. Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, Executive Director & Location Head of JSPL, Angul in his message said, “The Right to Education programme by Government has ensured that all the children will be enrolled in school. This support of quality study materials will enable the children of jail inmates’ children to continue and complete their study and shall supplement to the Government’s initiative”.
Thanking the jail inmates for their cooperation for success of this programme, Mr. Prashant Kumar Hota, Vice-President (CSR & Corp. Comm.) said, “The children of jail inmates should not be excluded from education, because their parent is not in their family. Through this programme we try to reach the unreached and promote education for all”. He advised the jail inmates to write letters to their children regularly, to motivate them to be a responsible citizen of india. Mr. Hota, on behalf of JSPL, handed over six emergency lights to the Jail Authorities.
Mr. PK Choudhury, Secretary of JAPSWS said, “In this Programme JSPL is in every part and JSPL is in every heart”. Last year, total 49 students, who have been supported through this initiative has successfully completed their High School Education, he informed. .
Expressing happiness over getting textbooks for their children, the jail inmates thanked JSPL and John Augustus Prison and Social Welfare Services. Jail Superintendent Mr. Niranjan Das welcomed the guests at the program in which more than 250 jail inmates participated. The study material set included test papers, note books, geometry box, essay books and pencils etc.
