Bhubaneswar: KIIT School of Biotechnology, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar organised a five day INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research), Internship programme sponsored by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India from November 15-19, 2013.
The programme provided an ideal platform to reach out and communicate with the 300 young talents from 13 districts of Odisha to stimulate their interest in science and research. The welcome address for the guests and participants was delivered by Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, Director & Head, KIIT School of Biotechnology thereby encouraging the participants towards innovation and creativity culture in the field of scientific research. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Oliver Smithies, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (2007), enriching the participants on his lifetime scientific journey. This created a scientific thrill for thirst on innovation and research among the crowd. The enthusiasm was more motivated among the participants with an opportunity to interact and mentored by eminent scientists such as Bhatnagar awardees Prof. P C Pandey, IIT Bhubaneswar, Prof. Tapas Kundu, JNCASR, Bangalore, Prof. G N Sastry, IICT Hyderabad. The major higlights of the programme was physics stage shows, chemistry stage shows, exhibition on electronic materials, hands on laboratory practical, idea contest, telescope handling and usage. The session was concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Birendranath Banerjee, Asst. Professor & INSPIRE Co-coordinator, KIIT School of Biotechnology followed by award ceremony for the best idea contest. The winners were awarded and certificates were distributed among all the participants. The programme was successfully coordinated and managed by Ms. Sanjukta Badhai- Programme Manager-Innovation & Outreach, KIIT School of Biotechnology, KIIT University.
The end of this five days of exuberant journey created a remarkable joyous soul among the participants towards the field of innovation and scientific research so as to contribute a small role towards strengthening the Science and Technology base in the Nation.
School of Biotechnology, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar landed a earmark in inculcating scientific temper in about 4800 young talents of the State of Odisha through INSPIRE programme by providing a platform for stimulating and brainstorming interaction with mentors that would in turn help in nurturing innovation and creativity in these youngsters in various fields of science and research
