Bhubaneswar : A long term action plan is to be prepared by Agriculture, Cooperation and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department for production of potato in the state. A task force headed by Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department will be formed for the purpose. This task force will submit a long term action plan within 30 days to make the state self reliant in potato production as decided in a high level meeting held under chairmanship of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjaya Kumar Dasburma.
A buffer stock of 4 lakh Quintal potatoes will be created to meet the requirement at the time of necessity. 2 lakh Quintals will be stored in 6 nos of Cold Storages under Cooperation Department. 5 more private Cold Storages have been identified for storage of the rest 2 lakh quintals potatoes MARKFED and NAFED will take up the procurement of potatoes during harvesting season and will submit the proposal accordingly.
Director, Horticulture had been asked to submit an action plan for revival of 12 Cold Storages under Cooperation Department which are not in running condition at present. The GM (PDS) will work out a road map for lifting and distribution of the stock during the time of requirement.
