Bhubaneswar: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) would set up a medical college and hospital at Talcher in the state. This initiative gained strength with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked between the MCL and state health and family welfare department at the state secretariat here on Monday.
Department secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra and AN Sahaya, chief managing director of MCL exchanged the pact sign in the presence of chief minister Naveen Pattnaik. After the pact signing ceremony health minister Dr Damodar Rout informed that the medical college and hospital to be built with an expense of Rs 400 which would be funded by MCL would have the capacity of 500 beds along with 100 MBBS seat. The state government would provide 25 acres of land free of cost to the MCL for the construction.
“The medical college and hospital which will run by MCL under the guidelines of medical council of India (MCI) is expected to start functioning from 2016. And the MBBS course would commence from 2016-17 academic session,” said Sahaya.
