Bhubaneswar: After commissioning the Steel Melting Shop in March 2013 and the Ladle Heating Furnace in May 2014, the steel production at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) is scaling new heights with steel billet production of 6130 tonne in May, 2014 which is its best ever production in a month, surpassing its previous best of 5002 tonne in November, 2013.
Billets are used for the manufacture of all ‘long’ steel products such as bars, rods, pipes, tubes, wire products etc. Earlier, NINL made a single day record production of 789.20 tonne of steel billets on 8th May 2014 surpassing previous record of 700 tonne on 16th December 2013.
NINL, situated at the Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Odisha had recently commissioned its Ladle Heating Furnace (LHF) on 2nd May, 2014. The commissioning of LHF is an important milestone for NINL which will increase the qualitative and quantitative production of Billets at the plant.
The quality of steel billets produced by NINL is well accepted and has found a distinct place in the market. As a result, NINL has received bulk quantities of orders from SAIL and other reputed steel makers in the country. Also some Re-rollers have approached NINL to go into a MOU to convert the billets into better NSR producing such as Wire Rods, TMT Bars etc.
