Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government recommended grant of renewal of eight more mines. In the wake of the Supreme Court verdict of May 16, directing the State government to stop operations of 26 mines under deemed extension, a high level committee (HLC) of the latter on Friday recommended grant of renewal of eight more mines including all five owned by Tata Steel.
The HLC meeting chaired by the Development Commissioner Injeti Srinivas has already c recommended five mines prior to the recent clearance. While Roida- II mines of KL Ram, Thakurani mines of Kaypee Enterprises, Roida-I of MESCO and Mamanura and Guruda mines of Tata Steel were recommended by the HLC earlier, another eight mines Tata Steel (Joda East), Joda West, Bamebari, Khandabandha Katamati (all five of Tatas), Kurumita mines of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and two captive mines operating under Central Public Sector Undertaking, SAIL are Barsuan Iron Ore Mines & Kalta Iron Ore Mines and Bolani mines.
“The Supreme Court on May 16 order had directed the State government for stopping mining operation of 26 iron and manganese mines operating under deemed extension till express order of the Government is obtained. In the wake of this order, the State government had constituted the HLC and initiated the renewal process of these mines.
