Sambalpur: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a Central PSU and a leading subsidiary of Coal India, has attained a great reputation in the eyes of coal consumers because of quality consciousness it has shown in the past couple of years, Mr A N Sahay, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the company said here today.
Mr Sahay was addressing officers and staff after inaugurating Quality Fortnight 2014-15 in MCL by unfurling Quality Flag and administering Quality Oath among the employees of the company.
Congratulating all the Executives and Staff for company’s excellent performance in ensuring coal quality, the CMD said proactive management and technological interventions have ensured negligible grade slippage of coal being provided to the consumers by MCL, which contributes one forth of total coal production of Coal India.
Emphasising on importance of total blast-less coal production through surface miners in the company to
ensure coal quality, the CMD also advised all the Executives and Staff of the company to ensure at all cost zero grade slippage in coal being provided to the consumers. Even in case of geological problem, which may force slippage in the grade of coal, we must ensure that the consumer is billed only for the grade of coal he gets from us (and not more) Mr Sahay said.
There has been no grade slippage (of coal being provided to the consumers) in the past six months,said Mr Deepak Srivastava, IFS, Chief Vigilance Officer of MCL, in his address.
Mr Srivastava said that the new initiatives like sampling by third-party and holding periodic interactions with coal consumers, besides the technological advancements in the operational fields, have ensured that the consumers get value for money.
Stating that the third-party sampling plays a big role in winning consumersâ€™ confidence, Mr A K Tiwari, Director (Technical/Operations), said the company will be focusing on shifting manual collection of coal samples to automatic sample collection and minimise human interference in the process of quality assurance.
Mr P C Panigrahi, Director (Personnel), Mr K K Parida, Director (Finance), trade union and officers association representatives were among large number of senior officers and staff of the company present at the inaugural ceremony of Quality Fortnight 2014-15, which will witness a series of activities in the coalfields areas under MCL Command to promote quality consciousness among the employees.
Earlier, Mr S K Srivastava, General Manager (QC), welcomed all the dignitaries at the inaugural function which concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr Ragunandan, General Manager (S&M). Mr M S Sharma, General Manager/TS to Director (Tech/Ops) and Mr Sameer Mahajan, Assistant Manager (QC), conducted the proceedings of the ceremony.
