Lanjigarh: SesaSterlite Ltd has observed World Environment Day at its Lanjigarh refinery confirming its commitment towards protecting environment.
Planting a tree on the occasion, Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Chief Operating officer of the plant said, “SesaSterlite Ltd has emerged as a pioneer in innovative environmental projects and it will continue to live its responsibilities towards creating a greener tomorrow.”
He further added that SSL is leading by example in terms of managing waste, which generally pose a threat to the environment. He said, “Waste is waste, till we waste it… but it is a resource if we utilize it. Based on this philosophy SSL is striving forward to emerge as a zero waste company. We are trying to re-use all our waste rather than dumping it outside and harm the environment.”
The company’s red mud powder plant is first in the world and a revolutional technology to handle waste materials from a bauxite refinery. It is also in process to develop and use green concrete from the ash slurry.
SSL informed on the occasion that under its green belt project they have already planted 3,50,000 trees and are targeting to plant another 1,00,000 this year. Others attended in the program are Mr Jalaj Malpani-Head Finance, V Prem Kumar-Head Commerce, Koustav Ratan Kundu-Head HR,D Ravindra nath-Head Projects,Jugal Mishra & Biraja Sankar Mund.Today Program has been arranged by HSE department on the leadership of Rabinarayan Mishra .
Celebrating the day, SSlLanjigarh organized a quiz competition to spread awareness about the benefits of a greener environment and how waste management is key for a better tomorrow. It also took up plantation around the township area under the leadership of Mrs Adarsh Gupta.
