Gopalpur: With an objective of empowering women of rural areas by helping them to develop employable skills, increase household income and thereby improve living conditions, Tata Steel has taken the initiative to impart coir product making training to women of Mansurkota village adjacent to its Gopalpur project. This training, coordinated through Tata Steel Rural Development Society –TSRDS and leading coir product manufacturer MSB Coir Products continued for a month. It trained the participants in coir product making and basic skills to market their products. Around 15 women of MaaGangachandi and MaaGayatri Self Help Group of Mansurkota village under Rangeilunda block participated in this training programme. Mr M Saibaba, a certified trainer of Directorate ofindustries, Government of Odisha who set up ‘MSB Coir Products’ in the area, provided hands on training to the participants. MSB Coir Products will supply raw materials to the SHG members and will also buy back the finished products thereby eliminating the market linkage problem. The programme provided the women with basic know how to start coir product business units and support them to become organised in community-based working units. Earlier Tata Steel had also taken up Goatery project at Mansurkota village benefitting 60 women from 5 different SHGs.
