Kalinganagar: Joining hands with the rest of the world, Tata Steel today observed World Environment Day in its operational location — Kalinganagar, Sukinda and Bamnipal. Activities like plantation of saplings and generating awareness on environmental sustainability through various programmes marked the observance of World Environment Day.
The observance was in keeping with the global theme for this year’s World Environment Day,Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level’.At Kalinganagar, a tree plantation programme was organised at Gobarghati Rehabilitation Colony.Mr U S Parkhi, Head, Environment, Kalinganagar Project, senior members of Tata Steel Parivar were present on the occasion.
Earlier, as a part of celebrations, quiz and drawing competitions for school going children of the rehabilitation colonies of Tata Steel and nearby villages and quiz competition among the officers of Kalinganagar Project were organised. The winners of the school level competition were given prizes on the occasion.
In Sukinda Chromite Mine, an awareness rally was taken out in the morning in which school children, employees, officers and representatives of the Workers’ Union joined in. This was followed by tree plantation by MrPankajK Satija, GM(O),FAMD. Mr Rajesh Patel, Chief(Mining) and Union Officials of Sukinda Workers’ Union participated in the plantation programme held at the Shrama Shakti High School.
It was followed by a craft competition for the camp ladies and a skit competition amongst the departmental employees. Winners of various competitions organised prior to the event were given prizes by MrSatija who joined as the Chief Guest on the occasion.
At Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys Plant at Bamnipal, there was a prabhatphery by the employees & contract employees in the morning. Later, in the afternoon solar lights were distributed to the nearby villages and trees were planted in the Dispensary and residential colony premises.
