Gopalpur: Bringing a great relief to the farmers of Patanda and K Samantapur villages, who have been struggling to get sufficient water to raise crops, two lift irrigation projects were inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Revenue & Disaster Management, Government of Odisha. Built by Tata Steel, both the projects under Digapahandi block of Ganjam district, will draw water from a nearby canal. These two lift irrigation projects would irrigate around 100 acres of land benefitting more than 200 farmers of the area. Praising the efforts of Tata Steel, the Minister said “This initiative will go a long way in addressing the irrigation problems of the local farmers”. Because of fragmentation of land holding and lack of proper water source for irrigation in the area, agricultural productivity of the farmers of both the villages, has been very low. “Now availability of irrigation facility will really motivate the farmers for adoption of high yielding variety of crops as well as make their agriculture business more diversified, profitable and sustainable” said Mr Sushant Mishra, Chief, Project Gopalpur and SEZ, Tata Steel who was present on the occasion.
