Bhubaneswar, 03.01.2014: A workshop on ‘Investment Opportunity in Tourism sector leading to promotion of MSME was held on the third day of Odisha MSME International Trade Fair 2014 here at the IDCO exhibition Ground.
The session was inaugurated by State MSME Department Secretary Panchanan Dash while Director of Industries Mr N Palei, Deputy Director of Tourism Mr. UK Pati, Joint Director of Industries Mr BK Dash, president of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha Mr JK Mohanty attended as the guests and deliberated on the subject. Mr. S Lenka from Indian Institute of Tourism Management and Mr JK Rath, Director of Machem Private Limited, also spoke in the technical session.
During the technical session, president of Hotel and Restaurant of Odisha Mr JK Mohanty requested the State Government to include tourism in the MSME sector on priority basis. “Tourism Sector is the only sector which loses nothing but gains everything. The tourism sector gains foreign exchange services, creates employments and establishes global brotherhood sans much investment,” he asserted.
Speaking on the huge opportunity available in tourism sector, Tourism Director Mr UK Pati elaborated on the rich tourism avenues in the state, be it temples, long coastline, sanctuaries, tribes, Bouddhist shrines or water sources. He informed that the employment in the sector will be doubled to four crore by 2019 as per a Government of India survey.
Mr Lenka exuded confidence that India’s tourism sector will be in the second or third position in the world tourism map by 2020. Mr Rath highlighted on potentiality of boating and water bodies tourism in the State.
In the second session, a buyer-seller and ancillary development with Defence organizations: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Litme, Indian Ordnance Factory and Icchapur Rifle Factory was organised.
The fair, which is aimed at giving boost to the MSME sector in the State, is being jointly organised by MSME Department and National Small Industries Corporation Ltd (NSIC). Around 270 industries have put up their stalls in the fair ground. The major industries include Rourkela Steel Plant, Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd, Nalco, Hindusthan Aeronautics Ltd, Paradip Port Trust, Tata Steel, IOCL and Essel Mining Company. Besides, more than 16 nationalized and private banks are also participating.
The week-long trade fair will have around 14 seminars, two each day, on different topics. Representatives of various companies will interact with the State-level entrepreneurs. They will provide various information and facilities for setting up industries.
