Bhubaneswar: With the historic milestone of Odia language getting classical status recently, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) celebrated the Utkal Divas with gaiety and regional fervour, at Nalconagar, Bhubaneswar, yesterday. To mark the celebration, the Company hosted variety of programmes from felicitations of eminent individuals to release of Odia Encyclopaedia, Odia Barnabodha CD, and a galore of other events, which reflected a distinct spirit.
Shri Ansuman Das, CMD, NALCO felicitated noted linguist and Chairman of Institute of Odia Studies & Research Padma Shri Prof Debi Prasanna Patnaik. Prof Patnaik, headed the team that submitted a report advocating classical language status to Odia language. On the occasion, Shri Das released a book ‘Ame Odiya- edition 3’ (an encyclopaedia of Odia personalities) written by Shri Nrusingha Charan Sahoo and an Odia Barnabodha CD produced by noted music director Dr. Shantanu Mohapatra. Shri Sahoo and Dr. Mohapatra were also felicitated on the occasion.
Besides as a tradition, NALCO has been felicitating upcoming sportspersons of Odisha every year on the occasion of Utkal Divas. This year the Company felicitated chess player Ms Saina Salonika and athlete Ms Duttee Chand, with mementoes and cash award of Rs. 10,000/ each. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri A.K. Sahu, ED (H&A). Shri Shri S.S. Mahapatra, Director (Production), Shri N.R. Mohanty, Director (P&T), Shri S.C. Padhy, Director (HR), Shri K.C. Samal, Director (Finance) and Ms Soma, Mondal, Director (Commercial) were notably present on the occasion.
